| Obverse description | Central intaglio portrait vignette of José Echegaray (1832–1916), Nobel Prize laureate in Literature and former Finance Minister, positioned to the right of center with fine engraved line work. The Spanish coat of arms is set within ornate guilloche underprint patterns that frame the note face, while denomination numerals and the issuing bank legends are arranged in letterpress across the composition. Date of issue, Madrid 17 September 1971, and three facsimile signature lines for Governor, Auditor, and Cashier appear in the lower register. |
