Obverse description Intaglio-printed portrait vignette of the Sevillian Baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo occupies the left portion of the note, his name inscribed below in a cartouche. To the right, the large denomination numeral "1000" is rendered in bold letterpress over a fine guilloche underprint, with the issuing authority legend and date "1º de Abril de 1880" set above the governor's and cashier's signature lines. The overall colour scheme is a deep purple-brown on an unprinted paper ground, with ornate engraved borders framing the entire design.
