| Additional information |
Macau's gold lunar issues of this period were produced under Portuguese administration, just seven years before the 1999 handover to China. The 1992 Monkey issue belongs to the second full rotation of the Chinese zodiac cycle in Macau's commemorative program, which had begun in 1980.
The Monkey holds particular status in the cycle — associated in Chinese tradition with intelligence and opportunism — making these issues consistently stronger sellers in the Cantonese-speaking collector market than many of their zodiac counterparts.
