| 正面描述 | Central depiction of the iconic ruined façade of St. Paul's Cathedral (Igreja de São Paulo), rendered in fine relief against a mirror-proof field. The architectural details of the baroque stonework are precisely engraved, including the tiered facade with its columns and niches. Twelve five-pointed stars arranged in a circle surround the central motif. The legend MACAU arcs across the upper field, while the date 2002 curves along the lower portion, flanking the base of the facade. |

| 背面描述 | A finely detailed prancing horse in left profile dominates the central field, rendered in high relief against a mirror-proof background, celebrating the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse. The denomination 1000 PATACAS appears in the exergue in Latin script. To the upper left and upper right of the horse, Chinese characters denote the denomination and the name of the issuing territory, reading 壹仟 (one thousand) and 澳門 (Macao) respectively. |

Issued as part of Macao's ongoing Chinese lunar series, this coin marks the first Horse year struck entirely under Chinese administration following the 1999 handover from Portugal. The Monetary Authority of Macao had by this point replaced the Issuing Institute of Macao as the territory's sole monetary authority, a structural change that accompanied the political transition.
Mintages for Macao's higher-denomination lunar gold pieces from this period were tightly controlled, with most production absorbed immediately by regional collectors in Hong Kong and mainland China.
