Mauritania's switch to Guardian® polymer for its highest-denomination note came relatively late compared to other West African issuers, and the 1000 Ouguiya P#19 was among the first polymer issues from the Banque Centrale de Mauritanie. G&D's Leipzig facility has long handled security printing for francophone African central banks, though Mauritania's banking relationship runs through its own Arabic-language institutional framework rather than the CFA zone — the Ouguiya has been entirely independent of regional monetary arrangements since the country's departure from the West African Monetary Union in 1973.
The OVD placement on polymer substrate creates different adhesion challenges than on cotton-linen stock, a known variable in long-term durability assessments of this series.
