Obverse description Within a raised inner circle, two intricately detailed Bhutanese dragons face each other in heraldic opposition, their sinuous bodies framing a central double vajra (dorje) symbol surrounded by stylized cloud and lotus motifs rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. A lotus blossom in full bloom occupies the lower portion of the inner circle, while a jewel finial crowns the composition at the top. An inscription in Dzongkha script appears in the upper border of the coin, and the legend KINGDOM OF BHUTAN is inscribed along the lower border. The notation GOLD 999.9 appears at the lower left of the border.

Reverse description At the centre of the highly polished field, a seated effigy of Lord Buddha is depicted in full lotus position (padmasana) with hands raised in the dharmachakra mudra gesture, set within an elaborately carved throne-back surmounted by a decorative aureole with scrolling ornamentation and flanking dragon finials. A decorated base or pedestal below the figure bears a frieze of smaller devotional figures in relief. The circular legend LORD BUDDHA • W.F.B.Y. arcs around the upper field, separated by small decorative rosette stops, while the denomination 1000 Ngultrum is inscribed along the lower field.
