| Obverse description | Imperial eagle underprint at centre, with the large ornate Gothic-script title 'Reichsbanknote' across the top and 'Ein Tausend Mark' below in elaborate calligraphic lettering. The denomination numeral '1000' appears in a guilloche panel at centre, flanked on each side by the printed serial number. A single red wax-style seal of the Reichsbank is placed at lower left, with multiple manuscript signatures of the Reichsbankdirektorium below the date line 'Berlin, den 2. Januar 1884.' Penalty text against counterfeiting appears in two columns in the lower portion. |

| Reverse description | Richly engraved intaglio vignette occupying the full face, with two classical allegorical female figures — representing Navigation at left, holding a trident, and Agriculture at right, holding a sheaf — flanking the elaborate crowned Imperial arms of Germany at centre. The central coat of arms bears the single-headed Imperial eagle in black with the Hohenzollern shield on its breast, surrounded by intricate foliate scrollwork. The denomination '1000' appears in oval cartouches at lower left and lower right, and the entire composition is framed by a decorative guilloche border. |
