Sheaves of wheat and boughs of fruit flank the central figure on both sides, with the coat of arms of the City of Traunstein at the lower left and the Bavarian lozenge shield at the lower right. Traunstein's municipal emergency currency was one of thousands of Notgeld issues that flooded Bavaria in 1922 as hyperinflation outpaced the Reichsbank's ability to keep denominations relevant. What distinguishes district-level issues like this one from city-only Notgeld is the joint authority — both the Stadtrat and the Bezirksamt had to stand behind it, a bureaucratic arrangement that occasionally produced disputes over redemption obligations when the notes were eventually called in.
Leopoldseder was a local commercial printer, not a security press. No intaglio, no specialized inks — just letterpress production under deadline pressure as the mark collapsed.
