Descrizione del dritto Printed in brown and green on paper, the face is dominated by a central diamond-shaped guilloche panel bearing the denomination in Gothic Fraktur script — 'Tausend Mark' — over a pale green underprint of repeated '1000 M.' numerals. The issuer's name 'Stadt Pforzheim' and the voucher designation 'Gutschein über' appear in Gothic lettering above the denomination. A circular city seal vignette is positioned at lower left, with the serial number in red and series letter 'A' below the central panel. Two blocks of legal text flank the upper portion, and the date 'Pforzheim, den 6. November 1922' appears at lower centre, with the signature of the Oberbürgermeister at lower right.

Descrizione del rovescio The reverse is printed in dark brown on paper with a pale green tint, centred on a large engraved panoramic vignette of the city of Pforzheim as reproduced after the Merian engraving of 1646, showing the medieval townscape with church spires, the river, and surrounding hills. Numerals '1000' appear in large type at upper left and upper right flanking the vignette. Below the central scene, the denomination 'Tausend Mark' is rendered in Gothic Fraktur script flanked by the repeated legend 'Stadt Pforzheim'. The city coat of arms appears in guilloche cornerpieces at upper left and upper right, with '1000 Mark' cartouches at lower left and lower right.

Pforzheim's municipal administration issued this note during the hyperinflationary spiral of 1922, when the Reichsbank's supply of small and medium denomination notes consistently failed to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. German cities and towns were legally permitted — and practically compelled — to issue their own Notgeld to keep local commerce functioning. By mid-1922, 1000 Mark was already a workaday transaction amount rather than a large sum.

The watermarked paper is notable given the context: many municipal issues of this period used whatever stock was available, sometimes plain commercial paper. A deliberate security substrate suggests Pforzheim's treasury took some care with this emission, likely to discourage local counterfeiting.
