Obverse description Blue-toned notgeld printed on cream paper, framed by an ornate guilloche border with Gothic quatrefoil corner devices and a repeating floral underprint. The denomination 'Eintausend Mark' is rendered in large Fraktur script across the upper field, surmounted by the legend 'Gutschein über', with the numeral 1000 repeated in the upper corners. A central oval vignette in the lower half presents a view of the Duisburg Rathaus (city hall) tower, flanked by the issuing authority legend 'STADT DUISBURG' and 'AM RHEIN', while a block of Gothic-script text in the middle field states the legal backing and redemption conditions, with the date 'Duisburg, den 15. Oktober 1922' and the serial number in red at lower left.

STADT DUISBURG
AM RHEIN
Reverse description Printed entirely in blue on cream paper, the reverse is enclosed within the same guilloche and quatrefoil border as the obverse, with a continuous microtext underprint reading 'STADTDUISBURG 1000' throughout the margins. A large central oval vignette contains a finely engraved scene of a steam-powered paddle or dredging vessel underway on the Rhine, evoking Duisburg's identity as a major inland port; the denomination numeral '1000' appears in bold white relief on either side of the vignette. Above the oval, the municipal coat of arms of Duisburg — an eagle beneath a crenellated tower — is rendered in precise intaglio, and a small rosette guilloche medallion sits below the vignette at centre. The printer's imprint 'SCHLEICHER & SCHÜLL, DÜREN' appears at the bottom margin.
