The Ruhnama — meaning "Book of the Soul" — was written by Saparmurat Niyazov, Turkmenistan's dictator who styled himself Turkmenbashi, "Father of all Turkmen." He mandated it as a sacred text alongside the Quran, requiring citizens to pass examinations on its contents to obtain a driver's license, and lobbying to have it sent into orbit aboard a Russian spacecraft in 2005. This coin commemorates the second volume, published in 2004, two years before Niyazov's sudden death in December 2006 — the same year this piece was struck.
