Aanvullende informatie

Niyazov turned 60 in February 2000, and the Turkmen state marked the occasion with characteristic excess — this coin was part of a broader cult-of-personality apparatus that had already renamed the month of January after him and erected a gold-plated rotating statue of him atop the Neutrality Arch in Ashgabat. The "Young Saparmurat" designation is telling: the regime maintained parallel iconographies of Niyazov at different ages, all under the self-bestowed title Türkmenbaşy, "Head of all Turkmen," which he had adopted by presidential decree in 1993.

Mintage figures for this issue have never been officially published.
