The twelve-year print run produced eight distinct signature combinations, which makes this one of the more granularly datable Italian notes of the postwar period. The transition from Guido Carli to Paolo Baffi as governor in 1975 is reflected cleanly in the dating, though Baffi's tenure ended under extraordinary circumstances — he was placed under criminal investigation in 1979 in what many later regarded as a politically motivated prosecution, resigning before charges were dropped.
Carlo Azeglio Ciampi's name appears on the final two dates, his first appearances on circulating currency before his later roles as Prime Minister and President.
