| Opmerkingen |
The Cassa Veneta dei Prestiti was established by the Austro-Hungarian military administration to manage finance in the occupied Veneto region following the Italian defeat at Caporetto in October 1917. These notes were a deliberate instrument of economic extraction — denominated in lire rather than crowns specifically to ease the drain of resources from occupied Italian territory without triggering the resistance that foreign-currency requisitions would have provoked.
The 1000 Lire is the highest denomination in the series and the scarcest by a significant margin. Most surviving examples show heavy fold lines consistent with actual wartime use, suggesting this value did circulate despite its size.
