Opmerkingen

Turkey's wartime monetary policy was a tightrope act. The country remained officially neutral throughout World War II but faced severe inflationary pressure from military mobilization costs and disrupted trade — the 1940 high-denomination issues were partly a response to that fiscal strain, not merely routine replenishment of stock.

De La Rue's London production of Turkish notes during this period is notable given that supply chains to Ankara were genuinely complicated by the war in the Mediterranean. Delivery of finished notes required careful routing.
