Vorderseitenbeschreibung The right-centre of the note carries an intaglio portrait vignette of President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in three-quarter view, set against a fine guilloche underprint in blue-grey tones. The denomination 1000 appears in large numerals at upper left and right, with the value legend BIN TÜRK LİRASI across the centre, flanked by ornate floral and arabesque border panels. Rückseitenbeschreibung The reverse is dominated by a large central intaglio vignette of the Güvenlik Anıtı (Security Monument) in Ankara, rendered in fine engraved detail showing the sculptural group atop a broad stepped base with a reflecting pool in the foreground. The composition is framed by intricate guilloche border panels with repeating foliate and geometric ornament in deep blue-grey, and the denomination 1000 TÜRK LİRASI appears in the lower left and right corners. A plain circular watermark area is reserved to the right of the central vignette.

Anmerkungen

The Turkish State's relationship with Thomas De La Rue ran deep through the early Republican period — London-printed notes were the norm while the Central Bank, founded only in 1931, was still building institutional credibility. This 1000 Lira was among the highest denominations in circulation during the late 1930s, a period when Turkey was navigating strict foreign exchange controls and a cautious wartime neutrality that would define its monetary policy for years.

P#132 is a pre-war printing, and examples that saw genuine circulation are notoriously worn at the folds — the large format and relatively thin cotton stock made this series vulnerable to heavy creasing.
