Additional information

Issued as Turkey's chronic inflation accelerated through the early 1990s, the 1000 Lira denomination that seemed substantial at its introduction was rendered effectively worthless within a few years of minting — annual inflation exceeded 70% for much of this period. The coin was ultimately swept away in the broader monetary collapse that eventually required a full redenomination in 2005, when six zeros were stripped from the currency.
