| Obverse description | Left-facing bust effigy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first President of the Turkish Republic, rendered in high relief with naturalistic modelling of facial features and hair. The portrait is unadorned and contemporarily dressed, truncated at the shoulder. The circular legend TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ (Republic of Turkey) runs around the periphery, contained within a beaded inner border. |

Issued as Turkey's chronic inflation accelerated through the early 1990s, the 1000 Lira denomination that seemed substantial at its introduction was rendered effectively worthless within a few years of minting — annual inflation exceeded 70% for much of this period. The coin was ultimately swept away in the broader monetary collapse that eventually required a full redenomination in 2005, when six zeros were stripped from the currency.
