| Opmerkingen |
Turkey's chronic inflation through the late 1970s meant the 1,000 Lira was a meaningful denomination when first issued in 1978 — covering a day's wages for many workers — but had shed most of that purchasing power well before the series was withdrawn. The period bracketed two significant political ruptures: the economic chaos preceding the 1980 military coup, and the austerity program imposed under General Kenan Evren's junta, which briefly stabilized the currency before inflation resumed its longer climb toward the 1,000,000 Lira notes of the 1990s.
Printed entirely in-house at the Merkez Bankası's own Ankara facility, which has handled Turkish banknote production since 1955.
