Angola's 2003 currency reform replaced the readjustado, which had been introduced in 1995 itself as a replacement for the original kwanza — three currencies in under a decade, each shedding zeros from a denomination structure gutted by hyperinflation that peaked above 4,000% annually in the mid-1990s.
