| Obverse description | The obverse features the arms of Zambia prominently displayed in the centre of the field, depicting two human supporters flanking a shield charged with an eagle above wavy lines, with a fish eagle as crest and a scroll below bearing the national motto ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION. The date 1998 is divided on either side of the central device, with the digit 19 to the left and 98 to the right. The legend BANK OF ZAMBIA arcs across the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the denomination 1000 KWACHA is inscribed along the lower rim.
