Zambia's wildlife coin programs of the 2010s were produced almost entirely for the collector export market — virtually none circulated domestically. The 1000 Kwacha denomination itself became something of a fiction by 2014, as Zambia had redenominated its currency in 2013, replacing the old kwacha at 1000:1. This coin therefore bears a face value in a currency unit that no longer legally existed at the time of issue.
