| Reverse description | Central field features a black-and-white photographic-style print of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother seated on a throne in full coronation regalia, wearing the Imperial State Crown and ermine-trimmed robes, holding the orb and sceptre, commemorating her coronation in 1937. The legend HM QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER arcs along the upper border, with the dates 1900-2000 immediately below. The lower border bears the inscriptions CORONATION 1937 and A COMMONWEALTH NATION PAYS TRIBUTE, all separated by decorative stops, within a dotted inner rim on an oval flan. |

| Additional information |
Issued in 2000 to mark the Queen Mother's 100th birthday, this is one of dozens of commemorative issues Zambia produced during the late 1990s and early 2000s for foreign collectors rather than domestic circulation — a revenue strategy common among smaller African issuers at the time. The 1000 Kwacha face value was nominal; at 2000 exchange rates it amounted to a fraction of a US dollar.
The rectangular flan — unusual for a circulation-format coin — places it firmly in the non-circulating legal tender category aimed at the international commemorative market.
