This historic coin design is set within a raised circular border, outside of which the commemorative legend and denomination arc around the full periphery, marking the millennium of Swedish coinage from 995 to 1995. |

This issue was produced to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, one of several gold pieces Myntverket struck during the mid-1990s for the collector market rather than circulation. Sweden had joined the UN as a founding member in 1945, and the anniversary prompted commemorative programs across member states. Mintages for these Swedish gold issues were tightly controlled, typically in the low thousands.
