Replacement notes within this 1000 Kroner series are distinguished by a star prefix on the serial number — a practice adopted by Norges Banks Seddeltrykkeri to track substitution sheets used when standard notes were found defective during production. The 1945 start date places initial printing squarely in the immediate postwar period, just as Norway was reasserting financial control following five years of German occupation and the currency disruptions the Reichskommissariat had imposed.
The signature transition from Meldahl Nielsen to Thorp between 1946 and 1947 is the primary dating key for collectors when no dated series letter is present.
