Issued specifically to mark the end of Slovak koruna coinage ahead of Slovakia's euro adoption on 1 January 2009, this piece was one of the last collector issues denominated in a currency that had only existed since 1993 — itself a product of the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The koruna's fifteen-year lifespan makes it one of the shorter-lived European national currencies of the modern era.
