This note belongs to a peculiar category of wartime emergency issue: the cash ticket (pénztárjegy) authorized by the Austro-Hungarian Bank for local branch distribution when central supply chains broke down in the final year of the war. The Kolozsvár branch — today Cluj-Napoca in Romania — was managing a currency supply crisis at the same moment the empire itself was disintegrating.
By November 1918, Kolozsvár would change hands as Romanian forces advanced and the Hungarian administration collapsed. Notes issued here in the last months of Austrian-Hungarian authority occupy an awkward political seam — Habsburg in origin, but circulating into a wholly different postwar order.
