| 正面描述 | Central device depicts the national arms of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, featuring the That Luang stupa set within a landscape of rice paddies and trees, flanked by sheaves of rice and framed by a cog wheel at the base with a ribbon bearing inscriptions in Lao script. The legend THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 1000 KIP appears in the lower field. The entire design is set within a beaded border. |

Laos adopted a commemorative coinage program in the 1990s almost entirely aimed at the collector export market — these pieces circulated nowhere and were sold through distributors in Europe and Asia to fund hard currency reserves. The 1000 Kip denomination itself far exceeded any real purchasing power parity at the time of issue, a transparent fiction that satisfies legal tender formalities without pretending otherwise.
The gilt application on silver issues from this program was applied post-strike, selectively, to highlight specific design elements — a finishing step contracted out rather than performed at the issuing facility.
