| 表面の説明 | Intricate frame of guilloche patterns and stylized foliage surrounds the central design, with a large rose window dominating the field and four corner oval vignettes illustrating aspects of Suriname's local economy. The denomination '1000' appears four times within circular rosettes positioned across the note. Two manuscript signatures in black ink represent the Director and the Director-President (Voorzitter), with the date 25 January 1948 inscribed accordingly; two diagonal perforations reading 'WAARDELOOS' indicate cancellation. |

De Surinaamsche Bank was established in 1865 and held a note-issuing monopoly for the Dutch colony throughout most of its history, but high-denomination notes like this 1000 Gulden were never intended for ordinary commerce. The 1925–1948 date range reflects a long uninterrupted printing run from Enschedé in Haarlem, though the German occupation of the Netherlands from 1940 onward created genuine logistical complications for colonial currency supply — whether plates were reprinted, reserves stockpiled, or shipments interrupted is not fully documented in the public record.
Surviving examples are rare. At 1000 Gulden, this note represented extraordinary purchasing power in wartime Suriname, and few entered circulation at all.
