Additional information

Suriname's 1992 Olympic issue exists in three metal variants — silver, gold, and this brass gilt — a tiered production strategy common among smaller central banks looking to maximize collector revenue from a single die set. The Centrale Bank van Suriname issued commemoratives aggressively through the late 1980s and early 1990s, a period when the country's economy was under severe strain following the end of Dutch development aid in 1982 after Dési Bouterse's military coup.

The brass gilt designation (KM#48b) places it as the base tier of the three, with gold plating over brass rather than any precious metal content.
