Obverse description The national coat of arms of Niger occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a sun, crossed spears, and a millet stalk, flanked by two lance-bearing flags on each side, with a stylised head of a Saharan oryx at the base of the shield. A ribbon scroll at the foot of the arms bears the legend REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER. The country name REPUBLIQUE DU NIGER curves along the upper periphery in large Latin letters, while the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines across the lower field.

Reverse description A coloured scene commemorating Pope John Paul II's historic visit to Damascus in 2001 fills the reverse field. At left, a colour effigy of Pope John Paul II is shown bending forward to kiss the Quran, rendered in polychrome enamel to highlight his white papal vestments. To the right, his pontifical coat of arms is depicted. The iconic Umayyad Mosque of Damascus, Syria, with its distinctive minarets and courtyard, forms the detailed architectural background across the full width of the reverse. Surrounding legends record the commemorative inscriptions in French.
