Beschrijving keerzijde A colourised photographic portrait of the Romanov imperial family occupies the central field, depicting Tsar Nicholas II in military uniform seated alongside Tsarina Alexandra and their five children — the Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia, and Tsarevich Alexei — set within an ornate palatial interior. The composition is framed by gilded laurel branches extending along the lower periphery, with a gilded double-headed Imperial Russian eagle displayed at the base. An inlaid pearl is set within an elaborate decorative cartouche at the top of the field. The commemorative date of the family's execution, '17.07' and '1918', is inscribed to the left and right of the central portrait respectively.

Aanvullende informatie

Cameroon has a long history of issuing collector coins with no meaningful connection to the country itself — this piece, commemorating the Russian imperial Romanov dynasty, is a straightforward product of that trade. The Republic of Cameroon, like several small African nations, licenses its legal tender status to European bullion and novelty coin producers, primarily as a mechanism for reaching collectors who prefer sovereignly-issued pieces over private mint rounds.

The Romanovs were executed at Yekaterinburg in July 1918, exactly a century before this coin's issue date.
