Niger has issued a long-running series of silver wildlife pieces aimed squarely at the collector market, with no pretense of domestic circulation. The ostrich entry from 2012 belongs to a wave of African nation-branded coins produced almost entirely by European mints — in Niger's case, typically handled by the Monnaie de Paris or private minting contractors — where the issuing country provides the nominal authority while the creative and technical work happens thousands of miles away.
