Obverse description The face presents a rectangular format enclosed within an elaborate engraved border of interlaced floral and foliate ornaments with circular corner medallions. The bank name BANQUE DE FRANCE appears in a cartouche at the top, with the denomination mille francs in large letterpress text at centre, above the payable-to-bearer clause ESPECES, PAYABLES A VUE AU PORTEUR and the date line. Two diagonal cancellation lines cross the entire surface, and two manuscript signature blocks appear in the lower half beneath the printed titles Vu par trois Régents and Le Directeur-Général, accompanied by a central vignette seal at the bottom margin.
