Guinea's central bank has issued a long-running series of miniature gold pieces keyed to fairy tale subjects, with this Hans Christian Andersen story among the recurring themes. At half a gram and 11mm, these are among the smallest legal-tender gold coins produced for the collector market — a format pioneered largely by the Berne-based minting agent B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt, which supplies the bulk of Guinea's contracted novelty issues. The issuing authority exists on paper; the commercial decisions happen in Europe.
