Niger's 1000 Francs issues of this period were struck under the West African CFA franc framework, with actual minting contracted to European facilities rather than produced domestically — Niger has no mint of its own. The fennec fox, native to the Sahara, inhabits territory that spans much of northern Niger, including the Aïr Mountains region.
