The curved inscription PAPILLONS EXOTIQUES arcs along the upper portion of the field, and the species name CHARAXES FOURNIERAE together with the year 2011 appears in the lower field. |

The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations simultaneously — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — which means this piece carries legal tender status across a currency union spanning over three million square kilometers. The BEAC's commemorative program, launched in the mid-2000s, leaned heavily into regional biodiversity subjects at a time when international collector demand for African wildlife silver was peaking.
Charaxes fournierae is a brushfoot butterfly endemic to Central Africa, named for the entomologist Fournier. Few collector pieces in this series have generated meaningful secondary market depth.
