| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant on either side. The quarters bear a castle, a Order of the Star of Africa cross, a palm tree, and a sailing ship respectively, surmounted by a buffalo head crest. Below the shield, a scroll carries the national motto in the legend. The country name REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper periphery in Latin script, while the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in the lower field. |
