Mali has no meaningful historical or archaeological connection to Tutankhamun, the Eighteenth Dynasty pharaoh who died around 1323 BC. This coin belongs to a category of sub-Saharan CFA-zone issues produced almost entirely for the international bullion and collector export market — the issuing authority lends its name while a European or Asian private mint handles design, production, and distribution. The throne itself was recovered from KV62 in the Valley of the Kings during Howard Carter's 1922 excavation, one of the few intact funerary assemblages ever found.
