Reverse description The reverse presents a detailed engraving of the Syracusia, the legendary ancient Greek galley built circa 240 B.C. under the patronage of Hiero II of Syracuse, depicted in profile sailing on stylized waves. The vessel is shown with multiple oar banks, towered superstructures, rigging, and decorative stern ornaments, rendered with fine artistic detail evoking the grandeur of ancient shipbuilding. The legend SYRACUSIA - 240 B.C. arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. The year of issue, 2015, appears in the lower exergue. The scene is executed in proof-like relief against a polished field with antique finish treatment.
