| 背面描述 | A polychrome coloured depiction of an African forest buffalo (Syncerus caffer nanus) is shown in full profile facing left, standing at the edge of a watering hole rendered in blue enamel, with green grass clumps in the foreground. The animal's distinctive curved horns and heavy build are rendered in black and grey colouring against a black enamelled field. The binomial scientific name SYNCERUS CAFFER NANUS arcs along the upper periphery in stylised lettering. The date 2008 appears in the lower field within an oval cartouche below the waterline. |

The dwarf forest buffalo (*Syncerus caffer nanus*) is the smallest of the African buffalo subspecies, confined to the dense rainforests of Central and West Africa — including the Republic of the Congo itself, making this an unusually appropriate pairing of issuer and subject. Congo's wildlife-themed coinage program of the late 2000s was part of a broader wave of small-nation collector issues produced largely for the European numismatic market, with minimal circulation intent and virtually no domestic distribution.
