San Hermenegildo was a Visigothic prince who converted from Arianism to Nicene Christianity in the late 6th century, a decision that put him in direct conflict with his father, King Leovigild. He was executed in 585 AD after refusing to accept Arian communion from a bishop — a martyrdom that eventually earned him canonization.
