The Salar de Uyuni lies entirely within Bolivia, making this a Cameroonian coin commemorating a South American landmark with no geographic, historical, or cultural connection to the issuing nation. This is unremarkable by modern standards — Cameroon's BEAC-zone franc coinage has for decades been a vehicle for the international numismatic collector market, with designs chosen for broad commercial appeal rather than national relevance.
Cameroon gained independence from French and British administration in 1960, but the CFA franc itself dates to 1945 and remains pegged to the euro through the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale.
