Gabon's bullion and commemorative silver program of the early 2010s was issued under the authority of the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale, the regional central bank serving the six CEMAC member states. Gabon has no independent mint; these pieces were produced by foreign facilities under contract, a common arrangement across francophone central Africa where domestic minting infrastructure does not exist.
The ostrich series falls within a broader run of Gabonese wildlife issues from this period, none of which saw meaningful circulation — face value is nominal against silver spot, and they were sold directly into the collector market.
