The BCEAO's early 2000s gold program was aimed squarely at the European collector market, issued under the monetary authority of eight West African member states but with essentially no domestic circulation intended. The Nike piece is part of a small series exploiting concave planchet technology — a minting curiosity more than a monetary instrument — produced in extremely limited quantities by a European contract mint.
KM#27 is among the harder-to-locate issues from this run.
