| Obverse description | The gold-plated central field bears the arms of the Republic of Benin in full heraldic detail: a quartered shield displaying a castle and fortification in the upper left, a star of eight points in the upper right, a palm tree in the lower left, and a sailing ship in the lower right. Two leopards, rendered in high relief, serve as supporters flanking the shield on either side, while a ribbon below carries the national motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL. A decorative star and crescent device surmounts the shield as crest. The surrounding silver ring bears the legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN along the upper arc and the denomination 1000 FRANCS CFA along the lower arc, both in raised Latin characters. |
