Additional information

The Junkers Ju 52 entered service in the early 1930s as a commercial airliner before the Luftwaffe repurposed it as a transport and paradrop aircraft throughout World War II. It remained in civilian service across Europe and South America well into the postwar decades — Lufthansa flew a version of it, and the Swiss Air Force didn't retire its fleet until 1981.

The Republic of the Congo's aviation-themed commemorative series of the mid-1990s was struck for the collector market, with no meaningful domestic circulation intended.
