| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large, highly detailed facing bust of Jesus of Nazareth dominates the field, rendered in high relief with long flowing hair and a beard, and wearing a crown of thorns upon his head. The surrounding field is richly decorated with elaborate floral and foliate motifs, interspersed with small figural scenes including angels and narrative vignettes in low relief, lending the composition a Renaissance-inspired aesthetic. Burkina Faso has issued legal tender coinage through the Monnaie de Paris and various private minting programs since gaining independence in 1960, but many of its collector issues — including religious-themed pieces like this — are produced under licensing arrangements with European minting houses and distributed almost entirely outside the country. The coins carry nominal face value in CFA francs but are never intended for circulation; the BCEAO, which governs currency across eight West African states, issues actual circulating coinage regionally.
KM#24 belongs to a category of sovereign-backed bullion and numismatic pieces that critics have called "fantasy coinage" — legal in origin, but disconnected from any domestic monetary function.
