Obverse description A seated female figure, draped and wearing a turban-style headdress, is depicted in three-quarter view facing right, holding an upright tablet inscribed with the national motto UNITE TRAVAIL PROGRES. The figure is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CONGO curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1000 FRANCS appears along the lower periphery in large incuse lettering.

Reverse description A detailed bust of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant is depicted facing slightly left, portrayed in 18th-century attire including a buttoned waistcoat with ornamental clasps and a powdered wig with side curls, rendered in high sculptural relief against a deeply mirrored field. The legend IMMANUEL KANT arcs along the upper periphery, and the dates 1724-1804 appear along the lower periphery denoting his birth and death years. The year of issue 2004 is inscribed in small characters to the right of the bust in the field.
