Additional information

The Republic of the Congo issued a series of wildlife-themed silver pieces in the mid-1990s through a arrangement common among smaller African states: the coins were produced and distributed largely for the collector export market, with little to no domestic circulation intended. Central African CFA franc member states rarely struck their own commemorative silver independently, making these issues administratively unusual — they fall under the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale umbrella yet were authorized unilaterally for foreign sale.

Mintage figures for this type were never formally published by the issuing authority.
